Welcome to the Web Hosting WebSpinner Tutorial!

The WebSpinner Tutorial was designed both as a teaching tool and a quick reference guide for WebSpinner.

  • Getting Started
  • The Main Screen
  • The Functions
Each of the functions of WebSpinner are represented by a button bar. More information on each of these buttons and it's functionality can be found by following the links below.
  • NOTE: If you have used the inforM/UMD version of Webspinner, please review this file for functions not supported on the webhosting, webspinner version.

The OPEN Button This button is used to enter a directory or select an existing file for editing.
The NEW FILE Button This button is used to create a new file.
The MKDIR Button This button is used to create a new directory.
The MOVE Button This button is used to move or copy files or directories from their current directory to any other directory the user has access to. It can also be used to rename files and directories.
The TEXT->HTML Button This button is used to convert text files to HTML files.
The RENAME Button This button is used to rename files and directories.
The DELETE Button This button is used to delete unwanted files and directories.
The SECURITY Button This button is used to set the access to information contained in a directory. You can allow access to everyone, only the UMD.EDU domain, or any domains or IP addresses of your choosing. If you do decide to restrict access to any of your pages, it is "web-friendly" to indicate this on the page to reduce aggravation on the part of individuals who try to access the page and don't know why they can't access it.
The STYLE TEMPLATE Button This button allows you to create your own style templates.
The PREFS Button This button is used to change your WebSpinner preferences.
The PASSWORD Button This button is used to change your password.
The SHOWPICS Button This button allows you to view all the images in a given directory along with their file name. WebSpinner opens a new browser window listing the sub-directories and displays any graphics in the current directory.
The HELP Button This button is used to access the WebSpinner Tutorial from within WebSpinner.
The EXIT Button This button is used to log out of WebSpinner when you are done with all of your work.
