How to Change Your WebSpinner Preferences

The PREFS Button in WebSpinner lets you change the way the WebSpinner window presents itself. We call these the user preferences. There are a variety of options available.

Directory List

You have several options to chose from in order to adjust the way your main WebSpinner file box appears. You can set the number of files listed in the box at a time before you have to use the scroll bars (the Size option), and the way files are listed in the box (the Sort in option). In addition to these options, you can also vary the way Web Spinner displays the Parent and Refresh options in the file box, as well as how WebSpinner denotes a directory.

Directory Structure

If you want to view not only the files in your current directory, but a directory structure of your entire web site, you can turn on the Directory Structure option. The directory structure will appear in a table next to your file box.

You have the ability to have the hypertext directory listing show only the sub-directories of the current directory instead of all the directories. This is especially helpful for people who have long lists of directorie to navigate.

You can set how many lines of your web site to display, as well as the number of subdirectories to show for each directory.

Text Area

You can set the length and width of your document editing boxes by adjusting these values. The Number of lines field controls how many lines of text are shown in an editing box before you have to scroll down to see more. The Width is the number of characters that will fit on one line in the editing box. The default value is 70.

Buttons

You can choose whether you want WebSpinner's buttons to be graphical or text-only. The default is graphical buttons.

HTML Files

This set of options allows you to customize how WebSpinner handles the creation and editing of HTML files.

The first option allows you to have WebSpinner create a default, "skeleton" index.html file each time you create a new directory.

Next, you can tell WebSpinner whether or not you want all your HTML files to contain the standard inforM elements. If you choose yes, WebSpinner will modify your file for you.

Finally, you can decide how much you want WebSpinner to edit your existing index.html files when you make changes in a directory.

If you choose this final option, several of the normal WebSpinner screens will have additional options for you to consider. These incluse the New Button, the Delete Button, the Move Button, the Rename Button, and the Text to HTML Button. See each of these individual files for the details on the additional option available.

When you've made your changes...

After you have made any changes you want to make to your user preferences (and have entered in your old password at the top of the page), press the Update button located at the bottom of the page.
