Renaming Files and Directories

The Reame Button lets you easily change the name of a file or directory. To change the name, select the file or directory you want to rename. Select the Rename Button.

Enter the New Name for the file or directory. The Rename Button will not move files, so you may not use the "/" character in a new name. In addition, it is not possible to rename the current or parent directory.

Then choose whether you want to replace a file if it already exists with the same new name that you just entered. If you are selecting a new filename that doesn't already exist, the you may ignore this question.

Now make sure all the fields are entered correctly and completely. Click the Rename button to rename the file or directory.

Special Note

If you have set WebSpinner to update your index.html files for you (see the page on the PREFS Button for details on how to do this) then you will see an addition to the page-- one that looks similar to this:

WebSpinner will prompt you as to whether or not you want an automatic update to your index.html file to reflect the file or directory name. If you say yes, then WebSpinner will update your index.html file for you. If you say no, then your file will remain untouched and you must perform any necessary editing yourself.

Note: Even if you have your preferences set for WebSpinner to prompt you, this additional question will only appear when you are working in a directory with an index.html file.

After WebSpinner performs the rename, you will be returned to the main screen with an updated file box and a message saying your file/directory has been renamed. You can then continue your work.
