What is the WebHosting Service?
WebHosting Services provides a way for campus units to establish
and maintain fully functional web sites while minimizing technical
support requirements at a very reasonable cost. Among the more
popular features of this service are your
own domain name, a stock set of
cgi programs, and automated log analysis. WebHosting is a UNIX environment and as such does not support ANY Windows specific programs, extensions, or services.
Who can use it?
The WebHosting Service is intended to be used by organizations and units
which are closely affiliated with the university.
What will it cost?
Basic Service costs only $600 per year. If you find that Basic Service
does not cover your WebHosting needs, additional services are offered.
What does the Basic Service include?
- www.XXX.umd.edu domain (where XXX is a name you choose)
- 100 MB of disk (sufficient for most web sites)
- Cold Fusion Functionality
Basic Service does not include database
- Server Side Includes (excluding cgi access)
- WebDAV Access to your file space
- File backup services (Files backed up)
- Automated log analysis and usage reports run nightly
- Local configuration file for log analysis tool
- 24/7 monitoring of the system
What if Basic Service isn't enough?
If Basic Services doesn't meet your WebHosting needs we offer a
varity of services from which to choose. A listing of additonal services and
associated fees are detailed in the table below.

Point and Park
If you have more than one domain name that you would like to use for
your website, we can "park" the additional domain name on our server
and have it "point" to your primary domain name space. |

Secure Web Server
A secure server requires a certificate to be installed on the server.
You may use a University signed certificate or a certificate from
a commercial certificate authority (e.g. Thawte). All requests for
secure servers must be made to webhostingadmin@umd.edu |

Coldfusion Access to Your Own Oracle Table Space
